The Fun Do’s & Don’ts
Alright future brides, let’s talk about one of the most exciting pre-wedding events—the bridal hair and makeup trial!
This is your chance to test-drive your dream look, get to know your stylist, and make sure you feel 100% confident before the big day.
But here’s a little secret: what you wear to your trial actually matters. Yep, showing up in your gym hoodie may be comfy, but it’s not exactly giving bridal beauty vibes. If you really want to get a feel for your final look, a little wardrobe planning goes a long way.
So, whether you're working with us here at Bfab On Location Bridal Hair and Makeup Services or just prepping for glam, here are the do’s and don’ts for what to wear to your bridal trial—straight from our stylists to you.
DO: Wear a White or Light-Colored Top
This one’s big. Wearing white (or something close to your dress color) helps you see how your makeup and hair will look with your wedding vibe. Dark colors can throw off how your makeup appears in photos and in real life.
Bonus points if the top has a similar neckline to your dress!
DON’T: Show Up in a Turtleneck or Sweatshirt
We love cozy clothes as much as the next gal, but if you’re rocking a hoodie or turtleneck, it can mess with your perception of how your updo or neckline-adjacent curls are going to look.
Plus, it’s harder for your stylist to work around bulky collars.
DO: Wear a Similar Neckline (If You Can!)
Got a top or dress with a similar neckline to your gown? Wear it! Strapless? Spaghetti straps? Off-the-shoulder? Matching the cut helps you see how your hair will frame your face and shoulders.
If you can’t match it exactly—don’t stress! Even a tank top or adjustable straps can help.
Neon florals? Tie-dye tee from college? Save those for brunch. Busy prints can distract from your face and hair, making it harder to focus on the full bridal effect. Stick with solids to keep the attention on you.
DO: Wear a Little Jewelry (Optional!)
If you’ve already picked out your wedding earrings, veil, or hairpieces—bring them! Trying them on with your trial look gives you the full picture. Even simple studs or a similar veil vibe can help you imagine the whole ensemble.
DON’T: Forget to Take Photos!
Okay, this isn’t technically about what to wear, but it’s important. Snap photos in natural light from different angles so you can see how everything looks in real-life conditions—not just in the mirror under your bathroom lights.
BONUS: Come With Clean, Dry Hair and a Bare Face (Unless Told Otherwise)
Your Bfab stylist will guide you on how to prep, but generally—clean, dry hair and a fresh face are the way to go. No heavy creams, oils, or wet hair, please! We’ll bring all the glam tools and prep you properly from the start.
At the End of the Day…
Your trial is about feeling amazing and making sure everything aligns with your bridal vision. What you wear just helps make the picture clearer—and the experience smoother.
And don’t worry—the Bfab team is here to guide you every step of the way. We bring the glam directly to your door (from San Francisco to San Jose and beyond), and make sure your bridal trial feels fun, relaxed, and totally “you.”
So throw on that white tank, swipe on a little lip balm, and get ready to have your main character moment.
